Market Report

We ask leading dealers of historic and contemporary Native American art what their thoughts are on the market and where it might be headed.

It has been a tough season for many Santa Fe art galleries, with most being closed for two months in the spring. However, sales picked up after re-openings on June 1.  Unfortunately, the robust Santa Fe summer season is not occurring this year as [many] summer activities have been canceled—the Opera, Symphony, International Folk Art Market, Spanish Market, [the in-person] Indian Market and other events that bring hundreds of thousands of visitors. Fortunately, we work with many avid collectors, and they have continued collecting despite the lockdowns and challenging circumstances.

We continue to do well with historic pottery, contemporary pottery by influential artists and early Pueblo and Diné paintings. I think that Native art collectors should know about contemporary Hopi katsina carver Kevin Pochoema. He is creating some of the finest carvings on the market today, and we are proud to display a number of them at Adobe Gallery.
