Welcome to the December/January issue of Native American Art magazine. This issue has a foot in two years. We can reflect on 2025 and what a great year of art it was, and also look forward to 2026 and what appears to be an epic year for artists coming up. This is our annual jewelry issue and it does not disappoint. We have 30 pages of jewelry this year and it all starts on Page 37. We have a feature on famed jeweler Arland Ben, as well as a special piece by renowned expert and author on Native American jewelry, Paula Baxter. What we love the most are the stories behind the jewelry, and you’ll see that here in these pages.
Native American jewelry is not only beautiful, it inspires. It also shines bright on whoever is wearing it, including the amazing stones. When you walk in a room with a beautiful piece it will get noticed. Our jewelry issue is forever popular. As the official magazine for the Santa Fe Indian Market as well as the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market, every issue of Native American Art magazine has a jewelry component. The jewelry artists are so impressive in their processes and it is important to have an issue each year dedicated to this amazing category and medium.
Our podcast the American Art Collective has had several leading jewelry artists as guests on the show. Show host Michael Clawson provided me with a list of great interviews to pass on to you if you haven't listened to them already. They include: Tim Blueflint (Episode 1), Darryl Dean and Rebecca Begay (Episode 4), Denise Wallace (Episode 5), Matagi Sorensen (Episode #6), Jesse Robbins (Episode 30), Bo Joe (Episode 70), Olin Tsingine (Episode 105) and Keri Ataumbi (Episode 337). In December, when you are at home and want to hear a fun and intellectual conversation about Native American jewelry, tune in and listen to our podcast. Enjoy this issue, add to your jewelry collection, and listen to one of the artists on our podcast. We wish you and your family a Happy Holidays and a healthy and adventurous New Year!
