Beginning in the 1980s, Daniel and Janet Hiddings began collecting Native American art at a very high level, including paintings, weavings and historical objects. Many of those works will be offered in a pair of Hindman sales starting September 22 in Cincinnati, and then continuing on November 2 and 3 in Denver.
Navajo Germantown Weaving, 88 x 59" Estimate: $8/10,000
Highlights from the September sale include two incredible weavings: a Navajo woman’s third phase blanket, estimated at $15,000 to $25,000, and a Navajo Germantown weaving, estimated at $8,000 to $10,000.
The November sale will feature works by Fritz Scholder and Tony Abeyta, as well as many others.
The works from the Hiddings Collection were displayed at the family business, Dana Molded Products, located outside of Chicago. “I am thrilled that we are able to offer such a colorful and curated collection,” says Hindman’s Danica Farnand, vice president and director of the Native American art department. “Dan had an eye for design and pattern, something which can be seen in the works he chose.”
Navajo Woman’s Third Phase Blanket, 54 x 39" Estimate: $15/25,000
Comanche Mountain Lion Bowcase Estimate: $15/25,000
Works from outside the collection that will be offered include a Comanche mountain lion bowcase, estimated at $15,000 to $25,000.
