Ancient Nations

Offering stunning works from many of the top artists working today, Ancient Nations: Indigenous Arts of the American West is proud to be part of an exciting and growing market for Native American art.

The gallery was born in the 1990s, when proprietor Brandon Bosworth spent two years as a young adult in a service capacity living in and around Native American communities. Later, he would go on to study Western history as an undergraduate, with an emphasis on Native American studies which included literature, language, law and more. Bosworth’s initial plans were to attend law school and focus on federal Indian policy, but the small business he had built selling Hopi arts and crafts online had grown to the point where a decision had to be made between graduate school and furthering the business endeavors.

Later, an offer came from a prominent trading family in Keams Canyon, Arizona, to join forces and bring their operations into the 21st century. The partnership promised Ancient Nations the opportunity to broaden its horizons and expand its offerings in ways Bosworth hadn’t previously imagined. During the subsequent years spent living back on the Hopi reservation and working at the trading post, Bosworth became even more fully immersed in the art and culture of the region. Daily interaction with hundreds of artists, and special opportunities to participate in local customs and traditions, strengthened meaningful relationships and brought increased insight into his own life as well as his business practices and ultimately the vision and mission for the online gallery.

Lisa Holt (Cochiti) & Harlan Reano (Kewa), Sugar Skulls, 10 x 10"

Two decades later, Ancient Nations is still going strong and representing top artists working today. Today the gallery is proud to feature the work of respected artists such as Robert Patricio, Erik Fender, Linda Tafoya-Sanchez, Johnathan Naranjo, Glendora Fragua, Harrison Begay Jr., Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano, and many others.
