“I’m excited about the upcoming show at King Galleries,” says artist Daniel Begay. “It’s always a great way to kick off Santa Fe Indian Market weekend. I’m starting the second year of my journey as a full-time artist and am enjoying every minute of it. In the past year I’ve had the time and space to explore some new shapes and push myself to create like I’ve never done before. I’ve done different shapes in the past, but this year I’m continuing my exploration of shapes, but in larger form.”
“Creative: Contemporary” Indian Market Show also features the art of Tammy Garcia, Dolores Curran, Nathan Youngblood, Stephanie Tafoya, Jared Tso, Autumn Borts-Medlock, Les Namingha, Steve Lucas, Al Qöyawayma, Juan de la Cruz, Robert Patricio, Joseph Lugo and Mavasta Honyouti. Each of these artists bring a unique syle to the historic medium of pottery—from Garcia’s sleek, dark forms to Tso’s flame-forged vessels.
“My designs are bold and stand out against textured area...After coiling the form, I’ll transform the plain surface of the vessel by carving into it to create different levels and layers,” Garcia explains of her process.

“Indian Market is a unique experience with each of our gallery artists creating special pieces for the event,” says gallery owner Charles S. King. “The creativity and innovation of each of these artists has made them a leader in Native arts. Seeing their work together in one room is an opportunity to view the bold and vibrant future of Native art.”
“Creative: Contemporary” Indian Market Show takes place at the gallery’s Santa Fe location from 3 to 5 p.m.
