Heating Up

The second annual Reno Tahoe International Art Show is a growing force in Nevada’s art scene.

Building on the success of its debut event last year, the Reno Tahoe International Art Show returns to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in late summer. The event fills an important space in the Nevada art scene, including one of the largest sculptural presentations in the country and a dedicated First Nations Indigenous Peoples Pavilion, celebrating the work of First Nations artists.

“You never know what is going to happen with a first-time show, especially in this case with an untested market,” says Kevin O’Keefe, founder and CEO of the RTIA Show. “Going out and building the inaugural show was a heavy lift. But people came to see the first show—to see that a fine art fair could actually take place in Reno—and the buzz has been steadily building since last September. This year we are doubling the footprint of the first event, expanding on the elements that make the RTIA Show unique and introducing a number of new features as well.”

O’Keefe adds that they are also building on their First Nations Indigenous People Pavilion for the second edition of the RTIA Show, offering significantly discounted exhibition space to CIB card-carrying Native artists. “The feature, which this year will include about 20 exhibitors, is something we really care about as one of the more important growing pieces of the RTIA Show,” he says. “The unfortunate truth is that First Nations art is a diminishing national treasure. It is our privilege to showcase such beautiful art while celebrating the vibrant people and cultures that have shaped our nation.”

Artists participating in the First Nations Indigenous Peoples Pavilion include Raymond Chee, Ronald Chee, Eddy Shorty and more.

Also featured in this year’s event are two participating international film festivals as well as Art City Invitationals, in which galleries, studios and sculptors from nationally recognized “art-rich” cities present together as unique city pavilions.

“The RTIA Show is a really fun, different kind of fair with a balanced presentation of galleries, independent artists, sculpture of all scale, bespoke furniture, film and music,” says founder and COO Briana Dolan. “Wine bars, beer tasting, live performances by local musicians, panel discussions and live demonstrations will all add to the overall experience of the show.”

The 2023 Reno Tahoe International Art Show takes place September 14 to 17.
