One hundred exhibitors will be returning to the 24th annual Great Southwestern Antique Show in Albuquerque, New Mexico, showcasing rare and exceptional objects from across the world. Most notably is the show’s emphasis on Native American treasures, as well as tribal and ethnographic art.

“In Native American art, we are pleased to say we’re just finalizing our agreement with Zeke Argeanas, a Navajo silversmith and jewelry maker,” says show owner Terry Schurmeier. “He’s going to be doing a demo during the weekend this year. He has a really interesting background, so we’ll get to learn a lot more about Zeke and his [story].”
When it comes to highlights at this year’s show, Schurmeier says, “We have a wonderful beadwork collection that was put together by a prominent Albuquerque collector and museum donor over [the course of] 35 to 40 years. Also, another big collector in Santa Fe who specialized in Civil War rifles…So we have some really interesting, fun pieces that have come from collections that we helped put together.”
Exhibitors at the 2023 Great Southwestern Antique Show include Manitou Galleries, Turkey Mountain Traders, R. B Burnham & Co., James Compton Gallery, Barry Friedman Blankets, Sherwood’s Spirit of America, Miles & Miles Trading, Brant Mackley Gallery, Cowboys & Indians Antiques and Toadlena Trading Post, to name a few.
“All of the people who are in this business take it as a responsibility knowing that these pieces have lasted hundreds of years. So there’s a level of reverence that happens with the people in our circle. It’s that kind of reverence that makes our business a tight kinship, because we do have such a respect for the artwork,” says Schurmeier, who owns Cowboys & Indians Antiques.

“When you see all this material that works together, you can really feel the significance of the items—a setting where people understand.”
