"Smol series" Two Faced Twill

Zefren-M
Twill Textile
Woven with a tight 10 warps an inch this makes a great Zefren-m collectible and affordable Zefren-M textile. It's the culmination of years of research, interviews and practice to understand the the technique. Twill counts are created using variations of sequences of wrap skips to create patterns that are only limited by the weavers’ imaginations. The quickness of weavings and the pleasing symmetry make most variants of the two-faced squares highly prized and many weavers regard learning the count as a self-attestation of mastery of twills. This is continuing series, signed, artist reserves the right to reproduce the likeness in other mediums. Navajo Wedge weave (pulled warp style)
68 x 58 x 0.25 inches (L x W x D)
In the distant past Na’ashjé’ii Asdzáán (Woman of Spiders) would visit the Navajo and Pueblo ancestors, and imbued the people with her creativity, strength and intellectual knowledge. This weaving is my interpretation of Navajo Mother earth and Father sky sand painting in the language of Wedge weaving. The duality of gender is woven into the stripes between the female (narrow) and the Male (wide) and the conflict, dialogue and resolution. True peace is the dialogue between extremes so that no one gender or sex can be superior to the others. All sexes are dominate and submissive and fluidity creates and expresses gender. The variant indigo dye edges on the scalloped edges represents the importance of the water cycle to life and though we make conflict part of our everyday life it must not supersede our relationship with water.  The Blanket as a whole represents the pattern that is the cycle of Nitsáhákees (Thinking), Nahat'á (Planning), Iiná (Living) and Sihasin (Salvation) to be read from edges to Center

I am a graduate of the Navajo Cultural Arts Certificate Program and a current Navajo Silversmithing BFA student at Dine College. I collected two years worth of silver scrap and refined it from from 17 oz. to a working silvers ingot of 11 oz. Created with an outdoor self built kiln and poured to 16 mm. at 5.5. inches to red hot forged to 4 mm. and 6.5 inched and milled down to 2.5 mm (10 guage) and 7.5 inches at a weight of 8.2 oz. Stamped with batman and joker motifs to understand the madness of the Joker and creating your own silvers ingots. Worked like a 1930s Fred Harvey split shank bracelet and filed very minimally to preserve the finish, the bracelet shows minimum micro cracks and brilliant luster only created from the refining process. Jokers Wild is an avant-garde reinterpretation of classic Navajo silver jewelry. Currently at unnumbered original of a limited run of 50 Poured ingot from scrap silver hand forged, milled, shaped and stamped 8.2 Oz. of Sterling Silver 2.75 in spread 10 gauge (2mm) with 1.5 inch gap.
