The Denver Art Museum’s Native Arts department, which encompasses the museum’s renowned collections of Indigenous Arts of North America, Arts of Africa and Arts of Oceania, recently expanded its holdings with 22 new works, all created by BIPOC artists. Six of these works were created by women artists, among them esteemed Sicangu Lakota artist Dyani White Hawk.
“Together, these works bring powerful new perspectives and artistic excellence to the collection, enriching the stories the department is able to share with audiences,” the Denver Art Museum notes.
Created in 2024, White Hawk’s Visiting is a towering 10-foot mixed media structure made from acrylic, glass bugle beads, thread and synthetic sinew on an aluminum panel, placed atop a quartz base.—
