Sandbar Trading
Now available at Sandbar Trading in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is this early 1900s Zia dough bowl.

“These large dough bowls, this one measuring 10 inches tall by 16½ inches wide, are survivors of a time when these bowls were made for use,” gallery owner Rick Gottsponer says. “It has the ethnographic wear that collectors like to see. Those loving taps along the rim where a grandmother stirred the contents into a loving meal. While these were made for the kitchen, the potter that created it painted these wonderful designs. It is similar to a smaller bowl attributed to Juana Lupita Toribio Pino in The Pottery of the Zia Pueblo by Francis Harlow and Dwight Lanmon (Page 297, Figure 14.90). The classic capped-spiral design and the flanking rainbow arc—a true masterpiece.”

Sandbar Trading offers free shipping in the United States and a large inventory with carefully curated works that include weavings, paintings, pottery, jewelry, carvings and katsinam, mosaics, beadwork, basketry and much more. The gallery is also a member of the Authentic Tribal Art Dealers Association (ATADA), an international association of tribal arts dealers, auction houses, museums and collectors dedicated to establishing and maintaining the highest standards of ethics, integrity and responsible collecting practices. The organization’s core objectives are to “promote ethical and professional conduct among art dealers, to encourage the responsible collecting, research, and study of tribal arts and culture, and to educate the public in the contribution of tribal cultures to the wealth of human experience.”
