Signature Sale

The Santa Fe Art Auction presents it largest annual sale on November 7 and 8 in New Mexico.

On November 7 and 8, the Santa Fe Art Auction will present artwork from all around the West, and beyond, during a two-session sale in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Signature Live Sale is the largest and most popular of the auction house’s annual sales.

“This two-day live auction features the best of the Southwest and beyond, and has long been a staple of the Western art circuit,” the auction house notes. “The lots included consistently attract record hammer prices and exemplify the finest of the most popular categories that Santa Fe Art Auction brings to market throughout the year.”

Highlights in this year’s sale include some of the most modern and sought-after works by Native American artists, including painters whose works are now being collected in major collections from coast to coast. Lots include Fritz Scholder’s Taos Canyon Gorge in Winter (est. $30/50,000), showing a minimalist landscape scene from Northern New Mexico; Jaune Quick-to-See Smith’s untitled pastel on paper (est. $25/35,000), full of imagery that relates to the artist’s life; and Emmi Whitehorse’s Untitled (Yellow) (est. $15/30,000), a mixed-media work on paper that is quite modern.

Another artist who always has a strong presence at the auction house is Tony Abeyta, who will be represented by Storm and Arroyo, a 23-inch-wide painting with estimates of $15,000 to $25,000.

Other categories in the sale include New Mexico regionalism, historic Native American objects, design, photography, jewelry, pottery, weavings and beadwork. Other artists with works in the sale are Earl Biss, Tammy Garcia, Molly Murphy Adams, Maria Martinez, Rondina Huma, Helen Cordero, Margaret Tafoya, Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano. —
