Tradition Meets Talent

Letter from the Publishers

Welcome to the October/November issue of Native American Art magazine! This is an especially exciting issue as it features four powerful special sections, including the official guide for the Cherokee Art Market. Native American Art magazine is a proud supporter of all Indigenous shows across the country. Our magazine celebrates Native American art and artists, recognizing that art is truly woven into every aspect of Indigenous heritage and tradition.

The Cherokee Art Market stands as one of the top five shows across the country, and, as the official guide, we will be at the event in full force. Get a sneak peek preview of the show on Page 52. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the market in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the grand spaces inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa as its hub. More than 150 artists will be showcasing their exceptional talent. We are also delighted to announce that Native American Art magazine will be presenting our Editor’s Choice and Award of Excellence honors at the market on Friday, October 10. This year these prestigious awards are chosen by executive editor Michael Clawson and co-publisher Wendie Martin. We are honored to celebrate the Cherokee Art Market in this issue. If you haven’t yet experienced Tulsa, October is an excellent time to visit!

Next on the list is our Culture Guide: Tulsa. Timed to coincide with the Cherokee Art Market, our guide offers a sweeping perspective of the city—from museums, galleries and cultural destinations all around this vibrant community. Tulsa is infused with enduring connections to Native American people and traditions. Our aim is to introduce you to places and experiences you may not have discovered before. The guide starts on Page 44. This issue also shines a spotlight on basketry, one of the most timeless Native American art forms. Inside, you’ll find leading basketry artists from across the country in our comprehensive buyer’s guide, and editorial curated  to refine your tastes and enrich your collections. To round out the issue, we bring you our Museum Guide, providing readers with insight into the most significant exhibitions nationwide.

Enjoy this issue, and we look forward to seeing you in Tulsa this October.
