Waddell Gallery’s Jewelry Pop-Up show is poised to offer collectors some truly stunning treasures in the realm of wearable art. Held at the five-star Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi in the heart of downtown Santa Fe, the jewelry show will have more than 170 pieces from the Andrea Rumley Collection, and a number of high-grade pieces from other collections as well. Over the years, Waddell's pop-up jewelry show has become an anticipated annual event amidst all of the excitement surrounding Indian Market.

“There are so many great things in Santa Fe. You know how it is,” says Gene Waddell, owner of the Scottsdale, Arizona-based gallery. “The focus of this show is the Andrea Rumley Collection. She passed away last year and was a dear friend of our family. Her son told me that she had wanted to sell the jewelry.”
The collection contains a mix of historic and modernist pieces, and about 80 percent of it is 18- and 24-karat gold. “They’re just amazing, glorious pieces,” says Waddell. “There are pieces from Kenneth Begay, considered—along with Loloma and Jesse Monongye—one of the biggest modernists in jewelry. Begay was ahead of his time. He was doing amazing silver sets, and this goes back to the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. He was well-thought-of and had a big influence on Navajo contemporary modernist jewelry.”

Among the Kenneth Begay pieces in the show is a wide sterling silver bracelet set with a large and dazzling Candelaria turquoise cab. “Especially amazing [in this show] is the turquoise. All of the top turquoise mines you can think of in Arizona and Nevada—this will showcase those stones,” Waddell says. His background is turquoise, and he’s been part owner of the Lone Mountain Turquoise Mine since 1979.
The Jewelry Pop-Up also features bracelets with prominent turquoise accents by Don Supplee, Darryl Dean Begay and Larry Golsh.

“We even have a few pieces from Sonwai including a Lander gold ring. And then we have three great necklaces with just the best turquoise,” Waddell adds.
The show will be held in the library of the Rosewood Inn from August 13 to August 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. A special opening reception is set for Thursday, August 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. —
