Native Fashion Week Santa Fe presents a unique opportunity to see a who’s-who lineup of Indigenous designers come together in the City Different during the week of May 8 to 11. Coming from the mind of curator, art historian and Indigenous fashion expert Amber-Dawn Bear Robe, the event celebrates the artistry and innovation of Indigenous designers and artists through a series of runway shows, symposia, trunk shows, pop-ups and more. It’s the epitome of beauty and luxury, seen through a Native lens.

Bear Robe has been working actively on this project for about a year, but her vision for the monumental event has been brewing for years now. “[I want to] give a larger platform for Indigenous designers because there’s never enough time, space or place,” she says. “This is an exciting new chapter for Indigenous fashion in Santa Fe. The goal is to build an industry and for Indigenous designers to be an economic player in the industry beyond entertainment and the Native bubble…This includes the right people in the crowd, a true press pit…I’m making changes to really support Indigenous designers, models and everyone else involved—photographers, videographers, production.”

Designers who will be showcasing their works in the upcoming show include Rebecca Baker-Grenier, Randi Nelson Designs, Alex Vigil Apparel, Stitched by April, Penny Singer, Dorothy Grant, Lesley Hampton and many more.
“Just seeing what the designers come up with and their creative freedom—that’s always the most exciting part,” says Bear Robe, “seeing the creativity flow on the runway.” She adds that she looks forward to working with both new designers and those she’s worked with in the past, as well as the fashion community as a whole.

“I am always thankful and truly excited to once again have the opportunity to showcase our new collections at…Native Fashion Week,” says designer Pamela Baker. “Every detail from runway to the weeks-long coordination of panels, fashion shows and staff is meticulously planned. Thank you to the organizers for creating this platform. It allows designers like us to share our cultural stories through fashion.”
In addition to the robust schedule of events, a variety of VIP opportunities will also be available throughout the show.
“This is the beginning of the next chapter for Indigenous fashion in Santa Fe,” says Bear Robe. “Expect the unexpected.”
