Winfield Trading
Winfield Trading is showing this beautiful cowrie shell Heishi bead necklace with hand-carved fetishes. The necklace contains 42 birds, 20 bears and five foxes made using natural turquoise, spiny oyster, abalone and jet. This 1940s piece was created by “Old Man” Leekya Deyuse (1889-1966), a renowned Zuni fetish carver. His extraordinary skill, creativity and dedication to his craft established him as a master carver and helped to popularize Zuni fetish carvings beyond the boundaries of the pueblo. Leekya’s energy and creativity resulted in animal fetishes ranging from simple carved turquoise leaves to fat bears and graceful birds to elegantly carved figurals.

Now available at Adobe Gallery is this Acoma Pueblo polychrome bowl by a once known Native American potter. Likely dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s, the pot is a rare and exceptional example of both artistry and craftsmanship. Bowls of this size from Acoma and Laguna are seldom found on the market, making this a truly unique offering. Executed primarily in black with touches of orange, the design relies on strong color contrast and rhythmic repetition rather than fine detailing. The stunning design continues on the interior of the bowl, where two pairs of birds create an unusual and captivating composition. This distinctive design element enhances the bowl’s charm and historical significance, making it a remarkable piece of Acoma pottery.
