Welcome to the February/March issue of Native American Art! This is the Official Magazine of the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market! This year marks the 67th edition of the annual market in Phoenix. The team at Native American Art magazine could not be prouder of our coverage, imagery, articles and partnership with the Heard Museum and Heard Museum Guild, which will be bringing more than 600 artists to the museum on March 1 and 2.
This show represents everything that is important in a market. It opens Friday night with the Best of Show Reception, which awards artists in eight categories with hundreds of entries. Saturday morning you will find all that award-winning art has been moved into the artist booths around the Heard Museum’s manicured lawns and courtyards. The museum itself is open to the public and the centerpiece of this setting. Outside, enjoy music and traditional dance performances with top artists offering both traditional and contemporary art for sale across many categories.
The most important thing is the community of collectors and artists who gather one weekend per year to reunite, catch up, see the newest creative trends and simply enjoy the days together. We love this event and the build-up that goes along with it. You will find our booth at the entrance with our team ready to introduce themselves. It’s a time for subscribers to say hi, renew subscriptions, grab a magazine, buy an official market T-shirt, pick up a map of the market and happily talk about the artists whose work you love to collect. We look forward to this every year.
One of the best parts about the market is how we discover new artists each year at this gathering and then bring them to you throughout the rest of the year. Our market coverage starts on Page 45 and it will take you into the museum, the Heard Museum Shop, the market booths and even the artists’ studios. Please start planning your weekend in Phoenix around this event. If you have already been, welcome back! If this is your first time, get ready to be captivated by the beauty of Native American art and culture. See you at the Heard!
