Art for All

The Wheelright Museum hosts its annual August Benefit Sale and Artists’ Market.

From August 14 through 17, Santa Fe’s Wheelright Museum of the American Indian will host a multifaceted series of events all in the name of supporting Indigenous arts. The festivities begin with the museum’s largest fundraiser, the Annual Benefit Sale on Wednesday, August 14, with ticketed early bird previews from 4 to 6 p.m. The sale, comprising historic and contemporary works of pottery, jewelry and more, continues August 15 and 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Proceeds from the sale supports future exhibitions, educational programming and general operations at the museum.

“In August, we get to share the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian with all those visiting Santa Fe,” says museum executive director Henrietta Lidchi. “A gem nestled on Museum Hill, the Wheelwright, founded in collaboration [with] and dedicated to Indigenous perspectives [that] honor the power of Native voices through art…With the Indian Market around us and our own distinctive contributions with free admission, there is something for everyone to enjoy,” Lidchi continues. “Our Benefit Sale features dazzling vintage and contemporary artworks, generously donated, for sale.” On August 16 and 17, the museum's Case Trading Post hosts the fourth annual outdoor Artists’ Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing the opportunity for collectors to purchase directly from and visit with established and emerging Native American artists.

“The Artists’ Market is a great event, and we are honored that such amazing artists choose to set up at the Wheelwright Museum each August,” says Case Trading Post manager Ken Williams (Northern Arapaho/Cattaraugus Seneca). “The beautiful views, the great chili and the relaxed environment mean you can spend some good hours on the hill. People visit, see outstanding art and chat in the Trading Post. Everyone should come to check out what the artists have brought, but remember to come early!”
