“I use beadwork in my designs to give it that extra elegance and make my pieces sparkle in the light.”

The Phendi Tewa Collection is her most recent collection, a monochrome black-on-black line with a touch of gold. The black and gold are representative of the Summer Clan Colors in Ohkay Owingeh culture. In the Tewa language for the people of Tewa country, the word “phendi” means  “black,” Mountainflower explains.

“The aesthetics of the Phendi collection include a series of geometric and floral designs or motifs that are usually found in the traditional pueblo attire or clothing, which are embroidered on our manta dresses or kilts. I use beadwork in my designs to give it that extra elegance and make my pieces sparkle in the light,” she says.

Mountainflower draws inspiration from her surrounding communities, culture and background in environmental sciences and water resources.
