This February 10 to 11, the Santa Fe Art Auction in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will hold the Native Arts Sale. Known as one of the premier auction houses of classic and contemporary Western art, Santa Fe Art Auction places major emphasis on Native American treasures, both historic and modern-day, including ledger drawings, weavings, basketry, pottery, jewelry, sculpture and more.

The auction house is also situated in one of the most culturally robust cities in the country, that of Santa Fe. During the upcoming Native Arts Sale there will be a variety of items from the Georgia and Charles Loloma Collection, including a Pair of Thirty-Strand Heishi Necklaces from around the 1970s (est. $800/1,200); a Pair of Four Corners Tree of Life Textiles, circa 1980s, estimated at $800 to $1,200; and a colored pencil on paper by iconic Hopi artist Charles Loloma, Untitled (Abstract), which has a presale estimate of $1,500 to $2,500.

Additionally, the sale will feature works by historic artists who have carved their names in the world of Native art: Maria Martinez, Popovi Da, Margaret Tafoya, Tony Da, Alfonso Roybal, Ascensión Trujillo Poquin Than, Pablita Velarde, as well as living artist Nocona Burgess. A fired clay Blackware Feather Plate by Maria Martinez and Popovi Da is estimated to fetch between $6,000 and $9,000. The sleek, slender form of Tafoya’s Carved Blackware Jar, fired clay, has a presale estimate of $8,000 to $12,000, while Tony Da’s elaborate Redware Pottery Jar is estimated at $25,000 to $35,000.

A portrait of Geronimo, painted in acrylic by Burgess, features the famed Apache leader in complementary hues of deep teals and earthy oranges. The piece is expected to bring in between $2,000 to $4,000. The sale will also offer other two-dimensional artwork, as well as basketry.
