The interest and marketing of Native American jewelry is constantly changing as new collectors are venturing into this genre. Styles and trends go in and out, but I’ve found over the years that there is always a willing audience for high quality. Collectors are always seeking to find the next fabulous piece to add to their collections. Take it from me, collecting since I was 7 years old, it can lead to quite an addiction!

The last two years has been very difficult for many restaurants, galleries and shops around the world, but the urge to collect has not gone away. There were more people at home looking for pleasant diversions—trying to decide what to do with all their clutter… “I’ll think about that tomorrow.” The jewelry market remains strong. Over the last 15 to 20 years collectors were either acquiring the older historic pieces or the contemporary award-winning artist’s work found at Santa Fe Indian Market, Ceremonial and the museum shows. Currently I’ve seen an emerging interest in vintage jewelry from the 1970s , ’80s and ’90s, especially among the younger collectors. This era brought a new generation of innovative ideas with great materials like the gem-quality turquoise which made it so exciting to witness the artist’s creative process! Some followed in the footsteps of their mentors and some created new pathways of design and execution. Prices went up considerably during this time mainly because of materials used and the quality of the artist’s work, but there is always something out there that is affordable to any collector.
I encourage everyone to take the time to research a bit before starting your collection. If possible, attend one of the shows and meet the artists in person and immerse yourself in all the temptation! The internet has opened up endless possibilities for access to artists and dealers in this market. All of us enjoy sharing stories of our experiences making, collecting and wearing this art!
Jewelry and the arts have been my passion for more than 35 years. We are so thankful for all the artists, dealers and customer/friends who have helped us along the way, and look forward to continuing the promotion and education of this fine art!
