From the Director

Welcome to the Official Indian Market Magazine. After a year of delayed plans, human suffering and upheaval, the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts is thrilled to welcome the 99th annual Santa Fe Indian Market. This year’s event will look a little different than in previous years, but we hope you can see beyond the necessary safety protocols and embrace the best Indigenous artists in North America. We celebrate SWAIA’s 2020 and 2021 juried artists in this publication, many of whom pivoted to a virtual platform with us in 2020. We appreciate all of our collectors and members who came along with us on this journey and continue to support our mission of bringing Native art to the world.

In this, the Official Indian Market Magazine, we explore the diversity of SWAIA’s North American Indigenous artists and artforms. We invite you to discover artists’ stories and to learn more about each person’s artistry and cultural background before visiting artist booths and buying direct this August.

There is no other experience in the world like the convergence of Indigenous Nations and artists in Santa Fe every third weekend in August. Santa Fe Indian Market has existed since 1922—continually transforming and reimagining itself over 10 decades.

We hope to see you this year and again at our Centennial in 2022!
