Beautiful Objects

The Objects of Art Santa Fe returns with contemporary and historic Native American, tribal and ethnographic art and fashion.

As with many events, Objects of Art Santa Fe made the decision to take the 2020 summer off and wait until August 2021 for its next event. This year’s edition will have both in-person and online components, making for an expanded event that grows its global presence in the marketplace. The live show will take place August 12 to 15 at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe in the Railyard District.

Michael D. Higgins Antique Indian Art will offer this 1870s classic Navajo child’s blanket.

“We are so pleased to welcome people back to the show in person,” says John Morris, co-producer of the event with Kim Martindale. “So many of our show-goers and exhibitors come every summer, and I know everyone is excited to see old friends and shop for something special.”

Dealers exhibiting in this year’s event include Buffalo Barry’s Indian Art, Duane Maktima, J Compton Gallery, John Ruddy Textile Art, KR Martindale Gallery, Parsons Fine Art, Traders of the Lost Arts and more. Along with the booths, the fair will have a special exhibition of pieces from bead artist Susan Poe, who passed away in 2019. According to the show, “Poe is perhaps best known for her custom pieces for celebrities, artists and rock stars.” There also will be paintings on view by Noble Richardson, who passed in 2020.

This collection of four silver and turquoise cuffs is available from KR Martindale during the virtual show. The single stone silver and turquoise cuffs are by Ambrose Lincoln, the wide stamped silver cuff is by Cippy Crazy Horse and the stamped ingot cuff with the center repousse is from the 1920s.

Objects of Art Santa Fe is recognized for its international slant, with a wide variety of art coming to market. Native American pieces are both contemporary and historic and include rugs, jewelry, katsina, baskets and so much more. Collectors will also find ethnographic materials including Pre-Columbian and African sculptures, Wounaan baskets and Persian rugs.

A rare Hopi Wolf (Kweo) Kachina available from Barry Friedman.

The show will kick off on August 12 with an opening preview, from 4 to 7 p.m., that benefits Native Arts New Mexico. The preview costs $35 and allows entry for the run of the fair. The show will be open August 13 to 15, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with daily tickets priced at $15 and $25 for the run of the show without the preview party. The virtual portion of the show, which will include programming, exhibitor showcases and more, begins August 9, 1 to 7 p.m. with a virtual benefit preview that costs $25. The event will then be available online from August 10 through 31. This additional component allows for a full experince of the show, and events and programming will also be available on the web.
