The Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign recently acquired a significant collection of Native American artwork. The second-largest general fine art museum in Illinois, the Krannert Art Museum operates with support from alumni, donors and museum members, and over time the museum has amassed a collection of more than 10,000 works of art from 4th century B.C. to present day.
This most recent acquisition of works by Native American artists, which includes a painting by Kay WalkingStick (Cherokee) and glass art by Pacific Northwest artist Preston Singletary (Tlingit), is part of an initiative to expand the museum’s holdings of diverse art and its representation of Native Americans, women and people of color. Collections galleries at the museum include also the Ancient Mediterranean Gallery, Encounters: The Arts of Africa, Ancient Andean Arts and more.
The Krannert Art Museum is currently following all Covid safety guidelines and protocols for those interested in visiting.
